Best location for a private VPN node in Europe?

I’m looking for a way to secure my personal browsing and get around some local network restrictions while I'm traveling. I've been thinking about setting up my own tunnel instead of using those crowded public services. Does anyone have advice on where to host a private node in Europe for the best speeds?

Setting up your own instance is definitely the way to go if you value privacy and consistent speeds. I’ve had great results using a VPS for VPN located in a central European hub like Brussels, as the latency is minimal and the connection remains very stable. It is much better than using a shared service where the IP addresses are often blacklisted by various websites. Once you have the server running, you can easily install WireGuard or OpenVPN and have full control over your data. It’s a very reliable solution for anyone who needs a secure, encrypted connection for daily use or remote work.

I was considering Germany or the Netherlands, but Brussels sounds like a smart middle point for routing. Stable latency is more important to me than having the absolute cheapest option.

Central locations usually balance speed across different countries much better. I also noticed fewer connection drops there, especially when switching between hotel Wi-Fi and mobile networks while traveling.
